On October 7, Israel suffered a surprise attack from a terrorist group, the Hamas. Hamas is an antisemitic group that has the goal of killing all the Jewish people. They also want to kill everyone that is against their views, including Palestinians. It has become clear that Hamas will kill anyone who opposes them, including Palestine. Hamas has no respect for human life or decency, using the Palestinians they claim to fight for as human shields. They are a terrorist group, and their goal is to inflict terror on people.
After the attack, many people started saying free Palestine. However, this is a completely different issue. Palestine and Israel have had conflicts for decades, however, this is not an issue of the Israeli government and how they treat Palestinians. Hamas is killing Palestinians, and they do not care if they are free. Critiquing the Israeli government had nothing to do with the civilians that are dying. Critiquing any country’s government does not mean you hate the people of that country. We need to separate people from their governments and understand the war at hand. Hamas is trying to kill all Jews, and it doesn’t bother them if any Palestinians are in the way. If you want to free Palestine, you are against Hamas. If you want to save innocent Israelis, you are against Hamas. If you are against terrorist organizations torturing innocent people, using people as human shields, and taking hostages, then you are against Hamas.
We need to stand together against hate. If you need any resources on campus, please feel free to reach out to members of JSU or administrators for support.
