April 24, 2024 is an eventful day packed with powerful messages for the students of Viewpoint and the world. Today’s primary focuses are about the Armenian Genocide and Denim Day with the only difference for Viewpoint students being that we get to play with puppies!
Today we recognize the Armenian Genocide (1915-1923). Where at least 664,000 and possibly as many as 1.2 million died during the genocide, either in massacres and individual killings, or from systematic ill treatment, exposure, and starvation. The Armenian Student Union (ASU) is partnering with Ms. Jacoby and the History Department and will have a daily write up highlighting important events and information regarding the Armenian Genocide posted in the bulletin. This is a great option to explore if you are interested in learning more about this day from a reliable source.
Denim day is always the last Wednesday of April, and it just so happens that it falls on the same day as Armenian Genocide day this year. Denim Day, a day where you wear jeans or any type of denim has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault. Remember though, we Viewpoint students still have puppies! These puppies are here for student wellness– as many of us students are grappling with tests and deadlines that are seemingly never ending as the school year comes to an end. These puppies are also an effort to bring a sense of wellness as the serious topics that are brought up by the aforementioned days. It is important to remember the saddening events that occurred on these days, but we can take solace in the fact that the Armenian Genocide is done are the Armenian people are thriving worldwide and that we know that motions against sexual assault are being pursued.
