The Viewpoint Patriots lacrosse team is playoff-bound after two thrilling victories over rivals Brentwood and Crescenta Valley, winning by scores of 7–6 and 12–11, respectively.
In both matchups, the Patriots showed incredible resilience, composure, and a refusal to back down when the pressure was at its peak. Against Brentwood, a late defensive stand preserved the narrow lead, with the Patriots’ backline holding strong in the final minutes. The following game against Crescenta Valley was even more dramatic, as it went into overtime. In the “golden goal” period, Senior Peyton Liu came through with a clutch shot that found the back of the net, sending the opposition home with their heads hung low.
Brentwood has always been a major rival for Viewpoint, and this was the very first time in PROGRAM HISTORY that the boys on the Patriots lacrosse team have been able to sweep them in a 2 game series. “The season had its ups and downs but every guy really pulled each other through. LET’S GO PATRIOTS, LET’S GO! IT’S GOTTA BE RED!” said defensive leader and ferda chant starter, Chase Beal.
“It’s a great feeling,” said senior captain Peyton Liu. “We battled hard and trusted each other to shoot on target. Every guy stepped up when we needed them to.”
The victory over Crescenta Valley caps off an impressive regular season for the Patriots, finishing with a 9–3 record. It also gives the team major momentum heading into what promises to be a competitive playoff run. Viewpoint will open postseason play against Damien High School TOMORROW on Ring Field, with faceoff set for 3:30.
Head coach Jason Romenello praised his team’s fight and spirit but emphasized that the work is far from over.
“We’re proud of the win, but we know the playoffs are a whole new elevated level of gameplay,” Romenello said. “We’re ready for any challenge, big or small — we will ball till we fall.”
Throughout the season, the Patriots have proven they have the heart, depth, and chemistry to thrive in tight situations. Whether it was coming from behind, holding slim leads, or delivering in overtime, Viewpoint has risen to every challenge thrown their way.
Now, as the playoffs begin, the energy around the program is electric. The players are locked in, the fans are ready, and the stage is set.
