Pope Francis died on the morning April 21st, 2025, the day after Easter. The Pope would suffer a cerebral stroke. Pope Francis promptly fell into a coma, and subsequently died of heart failure.
After Pope Francis’s death, The Vatican announced that the conclave, to elect the new Pope, will be held on May 7th, 2025. The conclave requires ⅔ of the cardinals in The College Of Cardinals to vote for a single contender.
The conclave only took two days, in which Cardinal Robert Prevost was elected Pope, and he would follow in the footsteps of fourteen Popes before him, taking the name of Saint Leo, making him Pope Leo XIV.
Prevost is the first American pope to have ever been elected. Prevost was born in Chicago on September 14th, 1955. Prevost has a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics, a Master of Divinity from Catholic Theological Union, and a doctorate in Christian canon law. Prevost worked in a Peruvian Augusinian mission in 1985. He would return to Chicago in 1999 after being elected a provincial prior. In 2014, he returned to Peru after being appointed apostolic administrator under Pope Francis. Prevost was appointed to the Dicastery for Bishops by Pope Francis.
The Pope had also been found to have attended a 2005 World Series game at White Sox stadium. The White Sox franchise has now installed a mural of Pope Leo XIV, as well as a fake Pope Leo XIV Jersey. The White Sox have also scheduled a special mass at White Sox stadium to honor the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV.
Prevost, now Pope Leo XIV has incredible experience and is very qualified for the position of Pope, and we wish him the very best in his immense responsibility.
