Out of all of these games, three stood out the most.
This rivalry matchup never fails and it was quite the opening to the 2025 season. Before the game, the 2024 championship banner for the Eagles was revealed, but the Eagles were in the locker room. Head coach Nick Sirianni said that they “won’t be out for that”, and quarterback Jalen Hurts said that he has “moved on to the new year”. The first play featured an injury to Eagles player Ben Vansumeren and an ejection to Eagles player Jalen Carter for spitting on Cowboy’s quarterback Dak Prescott. A storm in the third quarter delayed the game for over an hour, pushing the final quarter past midnight. In the end, the defending champs came out on top.
This game had very high expectations, but as the game went into the fourth quarter it was looking like none of them would be met, with many Bills fans leaving early. However, as the final quarter began, those same fans were filled with regret (especially after their favorite quarterback called them out). It was 34-19 Ravens heading into the 4th quarter and with 4:00 minutes left it was 40-25. The Bills then scored a touchdown, forced a fumble, scored another touchdown, and the defense forced a three-and-out. With a minute and a half left on the clock, the Bills moved down the field and kicked a field goal with 0:00 seconds left to win the game. The 41 year old kicker Matt Prater(oldest player to ever play for the Bills in a regular season game), now in his 19th season, was helping coach his son’s youth football team when he got the call to fly out on a red eye as the Bill’s regular kicker was hurt. He barely had time for practice before playing in primetime and kicking the game winner for one of the best comebacks of all time.
After the amazing Bills game on Sunday night, the pressure was on for the two young quarterbacks, especially for JJ McCarthy who was making his much awaited debut. At half time, the Bears looked amazing with an incredible first drive led by quarterback Caleb Williams and winning 10-6. It wasn’t looking good for the Vikings and many fans were giving up on JJ McCarthy already. At the beginning of the 3rd quarter, JJ McCarthy threw a pick-six and many believed that his debut was doomed. But, his coach, Kevin O’Connell, told him during halftime, “You are going to bring us back to win this game”. JJ did just that, despite being down 17-6 in the fourth quarter, throwing two touchdowns and running for another.
After an amazing Week 1 there is lots to look forward to in the 2nd Week, but the most anticipated game is the Super Bowl rematch. The Eagles will play the Chiefs in Kansas City on Sunday in what looks to be a great game.
