Wednesday, September 10th, 4:00, Viewpoint hosted the first ever water polo home game for the inaugural Viewpoint water polo team. At halftime the score was 4-1 with Viewpoint in the lead and after an intense hour of playing, Viewpoint secured its first ever home win against Milken School with a final score of 9-6. Freshman Christian Sardo (‘29) started the scoring streak that led to victory, “It just felt amazing [to score the first point],” he said in a quick quote from the pool deck, “I think I’m feeling pretty confident about the game, and you know I’m excited”.
Three weeks prior, the water polo team cast anonymous votes for captaincy and in an almost unanimous vote Avi Shah (‘26) and Dylan Onasch (‘26) were voted to lead the new sport. To Dylan, “It was really an honor, alongside Avi, to be the start of a long-standing legacy, here at Viewpoint… It’s been an honor to work with the kids and get to be a bigger part of something that I really enjoy”.
“[Yeah] I’m really excited,” said Avi, “we have a great group and I’m excited to be able to lead them”. Speaking of Avi, one of the most insane parts of the game was Avi’s brutal backhand into the goal when surrounded. “Oh it was awesome, the reaction from the crowd was super fun,” Avi recalled. “Avi gained 2000 aura,” approved Ronnie (‘29), a freshman on the team.
A large part of Viewpoint’s success is owed to their phenomenal head coach Scarlett Lund-Sidi who has over a decade of experience in coaching. “I’m very excited that it finally got here at Viewpoint,” she exclaimed, “for the last three years I’ve been here and I’ve been trying to push for it… I feel very honored and very lucky that I got to coach the very first [team] at Viewpoint”.
“I’m glad everyone was there for the game and I hope people continue to come,” said Avi, so please join us at the Competition Pool for Viewpoint’s next home game on Monday, September 30th against Hueneme School at 4:00.
