From Texas to Calabasas, Viewpoint is running a homecoming mums event! Homecoming mums, or HoCo mums, are a Texas homecoming tradition. A HoCo mum is similar to a corsage, but significantly larger and far more elaborate. Hoco mums get their name from the flower they are modeled after, chrysanthemums, and have artificial chrysanthemum flowers and ribbons to match school colors. Although mums have become far too large to wear to homecoming dances, they are typically worn to class on the day of homecoming, parades, pep rallies, and at the football homecoming game. The mums are traditionally worn by girls, and the corresponding garters are traditionally worn by the boys, although Viewpoint doesn’t adhere to such gender constraints.
So grab your friends and join Ms. Russell on Thursday, October 23 at the plaza to make your very own Viewpoint HoCo mum!
