During the meeting on May 18th, the Student Council of Viewpoint Upper School began selecting the Student of the Year. The “student of the year” award is given annually to an “Upper School student who is an outstanding all-around student in the Upper School. This student exhibits a concern for others, is actively involved in promoting school spirit, and has demonstrated a keen interest in improving the quality of student life at the School.”

Student Council began nominating students for voting on May 17th and proceeded to vote a day later during the meeting. The voting list is rumored to have contained a dozen student names, ranging from freshmen to seniors. The Dean of Upper School student Dr.Eric Steiger says that he refuses to declare “a winner at this moment, but it will be declared during the award ceremony on May 25th.”

The award ceremony will be at I block, during which awards for academic, sports, and salutatorian will be announced. The award ceremony will also landmark the first time Viewpoint School hosts such a ceremony in 2 years where the COVID pandemic forced the entire school to adopt an online format. The Vice President of the Student Council Executive Board Barry Yao says to the Patriot “we are looking forward to the result, please consult with your student council representative for who they nominated and voted for.”

The Patriot will continue its coverage of the award ceremony.
