Every year, millions of people watch the Super Bowl. Many of these people are watching not for the game, but for the commercials. This is for good reason. These commercials are the best of the best, costing around 7 million dollars for 30 seconds of ad time. Here are the most memorable ads of this year’s Super Bowl:
Dunkin’ Donuts
This was one of the funniest commercials in this year’s Super Bowl, with Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Tom Brady, Jack Harlow, and Jennifer Lopez. The ad has Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Tom Brady debuting their new band and trying to be in Jennifer Lopez’s new album after Jack Harlow told them not to. She rejects them but says that Tom Brady can stay. The tracksuits that the “band” wore were sold by Dunkin’ Donuts and sold out in 19 minutes. This commercial was definitely a win for Dunkin’ Donuts’ consumer rates as well as the new dunkin customers stemming from this ad.
State Farm
This commercial was definitely a hit. It featured Arnold Schwarzenegger as Agent State Farm. Instead of saying the famous slogan, “Like a good neighbor, State Farm is there”, he kept saying “Like a good neighbaaa, State Farm is there”. He was saved by Danny DeVito coming in to say the line right.
Verizon
This ad featured Beyoncé, saying no matter what she does, she couldn’t break the internet if people used Verizon. It resulted in her announcing the second part of her album Renaissance. This ad will be remembered for Beyoncé and will work in Verizon’s favor.
Dove
This was one of the most hard-hitting ads this year. It started off showing clips of girls falling down playing sports to Its a Hard Knock Life. It showed that it wasn’t “hard knocks” that made girls quit sports, but low body confidence, with 45% of girls quitting sports by age 14. The commercial was promoting the company’s self-esteem project, and it worked.
Uber Eats
This commercial was based on the slogan “Whatever you forget, remember UberEats gets groceries.” It included Victoria Beckham forgetting her Spice Girls group name, Usher forgetting he was signed up to perform at the halftime show, and the best one of all, Jennifer Anniston not knowing who David Schwimmer was.
Temu
Regardless of the commercials being expensive, this ad ran 6 times from the kickoff through the post-game show. Not only was that too many times, but the ad was boring. It featured the line “shop like a billionaire”, but that was it. In my eyes, the ad gave little about what Temu is and the overall numbers of replays distracted from the actual meaning of the ads.
He Gets Us
This ad ran twice, and it shouldn’t have run at all. This commercial was trying to get people to believe in Jesus, which shouldn’t be something that is shown during the super bowl. It didn’t resonate with many viewers and raised the concern of why religion is being promoted in a sports game.
Oreo
This ad featured Kris Jenner, using an Oreo to decide if her family should showcase their lives on a reality TV show. Obviously, this show has been very successful, and when she “twisted on it” Oreo said to have the show. This commercial was definitely successful, and very funny.
Silence
This ad was about combating anti-semitism, and really, all hate. The ad is a part of the Foundation to Combat Antisemitism’s Stand Up to Jewish Hate Campaign. The commercial has Clarence B. Jones, who helped Martin Luther King Jr. draft the “I Have a Dream” speech. Overall, the ad was a great way to raise awareness for what is happening in the world.
