Inside the VALT: October 27 – November 2

Colin Beazley, Staff Writer

Turning the clocks back an hour seems like a worthwhile reason to reminisce on a successful fall season for Viewpoint Sports, as the majority of Fall teams had previously finished or finalized their seasons this week. All five Fall teams made great progress this season, filled with highlights and growth, regardless of whether on turf, hardwood, or sand, and the memories made this season will last a lifetime.

Football

The Football team played their final game of the season Friday night under the lights at Brentwood, losing 40-20. In his final game for the Patriots, senior Niko Candido threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third. Juniors CJ Carr and Kai Yamasaki added TD receptions for the Pats. Kai also had a sack, while Luke Boehm (’21) picked off a Brentwood pass for the Patriots. Seniors Jackson Little and Connor Blake both had standout performances as well, finishing up great seasons and fantastic careers for our team. Although the season didn’t end how many had hoped, there was clear improvement this year, and the Patriots will go into next year with high expectations. Peter Boehm (’22) will take over the reins of the Viewpoint offense, while Charlie Barnett and Jaden Howard (both ’21) will return from injuries to contribute on the line. Running back Kai Yamasaki will also return, and CJ Carr will be able to play the whole season next year for the Patriots. All in all, congratulations to our football team!

Girls Tennis

Although the season ended last week for the Tennis team, doubles team KJ Eilenberg (’20) and Dylan Armour (’21) advanced to the individual league tourney last Friday. The two started slowly, losing the first four, but then mounting a furious comeback bid. Although they did come up just short, eventually losing 6-8, KJ and Dylan showed strong spirit, and represented our tennis program well. From senior captain KJ Eilenberg: “Tennis this year has been so great. All season we have had such a fun and supportive team atmosphere. We had an incredible season and we may not have won every match but we always had the best snacks!” The team will miss seniors KJ Eilenberg, Lauren Tepper, Jenny Huang, and Grace Lord-Alge next year, but the future looks bright. Congrats on a great season!

Cross Country

The Cross Country team traveled to Lancaster on Friday, for their final league meet of the season, hosted by Paraclete. The Girls team moved up to second place in the race, led by Lizzie Scott (’20), who won with a time of 18:48. Meanwhile, the Boys Varsity team won, successfully sweeping all four regular season meets this season. Senior Thomas Matthew led the Patriots to the victory, with a time of 16:07. However, the best story of the week came via a visit to their post-Saturday run breakfast, by Olympian Alexi Pappas. Pappas shared words of advice and stories with our team, giving our runners an incredible surprise, and an experience that many will never forget. Our team will look to use what they learned in league finals at Brentwood on Wednesday, as strong results from both sides will clinch postseason participation for the Pats! Another strong result on the Boys side can clinch the league title for the second consecutive year as well. Good luck to all our runners!

There are no home games this week, but again, best of luck to our entire Cross Country program as they compete at Brentwood on Wednesday!
